Statistics uipdate for Monday APr 20
(Image below is a just a screenshot for illustration purposes; full table is lower on the page.)Top findings for Monday’s data included: (1) In the U.S., cases and deaths grew 4% and 5% respectively yesterday, both up one percentage point from Sunday. (2) New York State’s cases and deaths grew 2% and 3% respectively yesterday, both down one percentage point from Sunday. (3) The percentage of the U.S. population that has been tested for Covid-19 is at 1.3%, which is at 18th place among major countries. (The leaders in Europe are Switzerland and Norway at 2.6%; Canada is at 1.4%.) (4) U.S. states with a double-digit % increase in cases yesterday were Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Connecticut; those with a double-digit % increase in deaths yesterday were North Dakota, Maryland, West Virginia, Connecticut, Nebraska, and Georgia.
Statistics Update for Saturday, Apr 18
Yesterday (Fri. 4/17), documented Covid-19 cases to date globally topped over 2-1/4 million people, an increase of 86,496 persons; that means that the total to date grew another 4% yesterday. After a dip in U.S. cases and deaths on Thursday and a spike in Canadian deaths on Thursday, all three numbers returned to where they had been earlier in the week. Statistics Update for Friday, Apr 17
Yesterday (Thu. 4/16), documented Covid-19 cases to date globally surpassed over 2 million people, an increase of 98,936 persons; that means that the total to date again grew 4% yesterday. Both the U.S. overall and New York State in particular saw mild to moderate declines in both cases and deaths, but Canada a record number of new cases (1,727) and a huge leap in new deaths (to 185). In fact, Canada’s 18% one-day increase in total deaths to date was the highest of all major countries.
Statistics Update for Thursday, Apr 16
Reuters: “Note: On April 14, New York City began reporting probable COVID-19 deaths which accounts for the spike in deaths at that time in the chart above. These cases include individuals who had not been tested for the virus but whose cause of death was listed as COVID-19 or an equivalent on their death certificate.”
Yesterday (Wed. 4/15), confirmed COVID-19 cases to date globally surpassed over 2 million people, an increase of 84,512 persons; that means that the total to date again grew 5% yesterday — the highest percentage increase this week. The U.S. saw its largest one-day death total yet, at 2,482 individuals, and Canada saw its second-largest, at 107 individuals. New York saw its daily increase in number of cases and deaths holding essentially steady. The U.S.’s 10% one-day increase in total deaths to date was the highest of all major countries most affected by the Covid-19 crises.

Statistics Update for Wed, Apr 15
Yesterday (Tue. 4/14), confirmed COVID-19 cases to date globally surpassed over 1.99 million people, an increase of 74,012 persons; that means that the total to date again grew 4% yesterday. Canada saw a huge leap in deaths yesterday — 50% more than any previous day to date. New York State (and New Jersey, not shown) also had upward trends in both cases and % increases.

Yesterday (4/12), confirmed COVID-19 cases to date globally grew to 1.85 million people, an increase of 72,514 persons (which is the lowest one-day increase since last Sunday). That means that the total to date grew only 4% yesterday — the lowest percentage increase seen in a long time. Almost all percentage increases shown in the table at right were down, apparently showing the effectiveness of social distancing and quarantines.

That means that the total to date grew only 4% yesterday — the lowest percentage increase we’ve seen in a long time. Almost all percentage increases shown in the table at right were down, apparently showing the effectiveness of social distancing and quarantines.

Statistics Watch for Sunday, April 12th
Yesterday (4/11), confirmed COVID-19 cases to date globally grew to almost 1.8 million people, an increase of 108,879 persons). That means that the total again grew 7% in just one day (albeit down from 9% per day a week ago). The state of New York, a bellweather for the U.S., saw a decline in both cases and deaths. Canada had its worst day of deaths so far (but only by a slight margin).

Yesterday, confirmed COVID-19 cases to date globally grew to 1,698,835 people, an increase of 95,551 persons (up, FYI, from 85,234 the day before). That means that the total again grew 6% in just one day (albeit down from 8-9% per day a week ago). The state of New York, a bellweather for the U.S., saw a very slight increase in both cases and deaths on Thursday despite its efforts.
