The following table shows the fifteen countries most affected by the Covid-19 crisis based on cases per million citizens. Note that the U.S. had the highest percentage increase in deaths yesterday of those fifteen countries:
Pop. (millions) | Tested cases per million | Increase in cases (4/15) | Deaths per million | Increase in deaths (4/15) | New deaths (total, not per capita)
46.8 | Spain | 3,864 | 4% | 402 | 3% | 557
8.7 | Switzerland | 3,043 | 2% | 143 | 6% | 65
11.6 | Belgium | 2,897 | 8% | 383 | 7% | 283
60.5 | Italy | 2,732 | 2% | 358 | 3% | 578
4.9 | Ireland | 2,541 | 9% | 90 | 9% | 38
65.3 | France | 2,265 | 3% | 263 | 9% | 1,438
331.0 | USA | 1,946 | 5% | 86 | 10% | 2,482
10.2 | Portugal | 1,774 | 4% | 59 | 6% | 32
17.1 | Netherlands | 1,643 | 3% | 183 | 6% | 189
83.8 | Germany | 1,608 | 2% | 45 | 9% | 309
9.0 | Austria | 1,593 | 1% | 44 | 2% | 9
67.9 | UK | 1,451 | 5% | 190 | 6% | 761
8.7 | Israel | 1,444 | 4% | 15 | 6% | 7
2.9 | Qatar | 1,288 | 8% | 2 | 0% | 0 | |||
5.4 | Norway | 1,254 | 3% | 28 | 8% | 11 |
Math note: A consistent 10% daily increase would mean that the statistic being measured would double every week — in other words, if this rate continues, a week from today we will be seeing almost 5,000 U.S. deaths per day.
Context note: At a 10% daily growth rate, we’re only two days away from the daily number of U.S. Covid-19 deaths being greater than the total number of deaths on 9/11.
